Viagra often prescribed to help men’s erectile dysfunction, also helps women who experience sexual problems from antidepressant use, according to a new study. Viagra and related erectile dysfunction drugs appear to counteract sexual dysfunction in some women taking antidepressants. But those pills aren’t going to help all depressed women overcome a common side effect of their psychiatric medication. Four years after Pfizer abandoned trials seeking FDA approval of its use as a potential treatment for female sexual arousal disorder, new research suggests that the diamond-shaped pill may help some women overcome sexual side effects caused by antidepressants.
Women and men taking antidepressants called serotonin reuptake inhibitors sometimes experience a fading libido. An estimated 30 to 70 percent of people taking these antidepressants register sex-related complaints at some point. SRIs include Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, Lexapro, Celexa and Anafranil.
In women, this change can be compounded by decreased genital sensitivity, vaginal dryness, delayed or absent orgasms and general dissatisfaction with sex. Depressed women whose testosterone levels are low are particularly unlikely to find sexual function restored by Viagra, says Anita Clayton, professor of psychiatry at the University of Virginia and an expert in treatment-related sexual problems. Furthermore, Viagra can cause its own side effects, from headache to flushing, and can’t be taken with nitrates, drugs typically prescribed for chest pain. Ruslana Korshunova, the Russian supermodel who gave up her life by jumping down from her ninth-floor Manhattan apartment on Saturday “felt confused about the direction of her life,” media quoted her ex-boyfriend as saying on Tuesday. Police said they were investigating her death as possible suicide. There were no signs of a struggle in the flat in which she had lived for two months, but a hole had been ripped in the construction netting that covered the balcony from which she apparently fell.
What made the model known as the “Russian Rapunzel” jump out of a window this weekend?
The coverage of the suicide of model Ruslana Korshunova, however, has one minor irritant that needs to be pointed out. Ruslana Korshunova, a 20-year-old native of Kazakhstan, a cover girl for French Elle and Russian Vogue, had lost a lot of weight in the last month and had trouble balancing her personal life and her demanding work schedule, her ex-boyfriend told the paper. Michelle Obama’s recent TV appearance on ABC’s gabfest “The View” apparently struck a chord with many viewers, and not just because of her friendly fist-bumps and sparkling conversation. When the show’s audience saw her breezy, black-and-white, high-waisted print dress designed by Ricco, they had to have it. Virtually overnight, the dress all but sold out at the White House/Black Market boutiques that sell it for an affordable $148.
“In the last few days we’ve sold probably about 12 — which is a lot,” said Kathy Wajeeh, a sales associate for White House/Black Market in the Galleria. As of Friday morning, the Galleria store had only two of the $148 dresses left.
Tall, poised and elegant, Ms. Obama is emerging as a new high-profile clotheshorse upon which designers and retailers are pinning their hopes. While the word “Camelot” has been bandied about when discussing the sartorial projections of Ms. Obama — fueled in part by the 1950s flip hairdo that she sometimes favors — her style sensibility is expected to have broad appeal. Gay men and straight women share some characteristics in the area of the brain responsible for emotion, mood and anxiety, a new study finds. Swedish researchers have found that some physical attributes of the homosexual brain resemble those found in the opposite sex, according to an article published online (June 16) in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Their research has found that the right and the left hemispheres are almost exactly the same size in both groups. They say scans show that gay men and heterosexual women have similar wiring in parts of the brain that control emotional reactions. Specifically, key brain structures in homosexuals which govern “mood, anxiety and aggressiveness” resemble those in heterosexuals of the opposite sex - something likely to have been “forged” in the womb and not the result of later learning processes. New first lady Michelle Obama is a young, stylish, beautiful and successful corporate attorney from humble south-side-of-Chicago beginnings. The Democratic hopeful says she runs their life with a “general’s efficiency” and constantly reminds him he is a mere mortal whose snoring drives her crazy. She gives him hell for dropping his dirty socks on the bedroom floor and failing to put the rubbish out.
The pretty 44-year-old seems too good to be true. She is feisty, opinionated and - aside from a couple of sarcastic comments about her husband’s smelly breath when he wakes up - has yet to put a foot wrong.
While it’s not often that Michelle Obama and Barbara Bush appear in the same sentence, there are those who think that, as Barack Obama’s historic candidacy powers along, his wife seems to be borrowing from the playbook of the wife of Bush 41 and mother of Bush 43. Michelle Obama’s fashion sensibility also figures prominently in a Sunday commentary by the Washington Post’s Robin Givhan (a Pulitzer Prize winner who caused a stir last summer with a controversial column on Hillary Clinton). Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo may have patched up their relationship, but it hasn’t been all sunshine, lollipops, rainbows and puppies. According to a source, the 27-year-old singer’s dad Joe Simpson had offered a broker a deal to sell his engagement and wedding to a magazine. “‘If you guys have a marriage, I can do the same [sell it] that I did with Ashlee,’” a source quoted Joe as saying.
Just before her sister Ashlee’s wedding, rumors started up that Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo were on the outs. But a recent trip to Dallas proved otherwise. The Blonde Ambition actress and her Cowboy quarterback boyfriend were spotted strolling arm-in-arm following a lunch outing at Dallas Primo restaurant.
The fervent Simpson dad/manager is defending his actions, telling Us Weekly: “It’s unfair to criticize me for what every manager does for his or her clients. And, in this business where people can quickly turn on you, who better than a parent to be working for his children?” (Umm…we think anyone else would be better. A father who has a history of commenting on his daughter’s boobs is just creepy.) Read more of Joe Simpson to Break Jessica-Tony
Claudia Schiffer dominated the catwalk during the 1990s, now she is proving she’s still worthy of supermodel status. This 37-year-old mother-of-two has stripped off, pictured topless and appearing nude - save for briefs, hold-ups and a feline mask - in a provocative cover shoot for the German edition of Vogue magazine. Dressed in just a pair of knickers, black stockings and a feline mask, stars in a photographic collection, boldly titled Sex, by renowned fashion snapper Mario Testino, who is famous for shooting the world’s most high profile stars, including Princess Diana and Madonna.
Proving her supermodel status is clearly not waning, the mother-of-two has returned to more high-profile modelling jobs in the last year, after taking time out to raise her children. She has again teamed up with Karl Lagerfeld, the designer that discovered her, to star in Chanel’s advertising campaigns.
This new shoot, which appears on the cover of the German edition of Vogue, is another marker in her gradual return to the modelling scene. Read more of Claudia Schiffer in Provocative Naked Vogue Shoot
Miley Cyrus has gained a lot of attention over the past several months with a seriers of racy photos. Playboy’s octogenarian boss Hugh Hefner has said he is interested in having Miley Cyrus in his adult magazine when she will turn 18. “Sure, she’d be welcomed in the magazine,” he told Extra. “Very pretty lady.” I wonder how Disney feels about this overture. No stranger to controversy, Hefner made a similar plea to Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen before they turned eighteen, but the twins took a pass. I assume Miley Cyrus will do the same.
The invitation comes after the release of Vanity Fair photos showing the 15-year-old clad only in a satin sheet with her back exposed. The images sparked considerable controversy and led to an apology from the young singer. “I think to make such a big to do over something as innocent as those photos, I think is a reflection on how schizophrenic America is about sexuality,” said Hefner. Hef said the Olsen twins, naked, together, is every young man’s fantasy, but the bobble heads passed.
Meanwhile, Disney Channel’s “Hannah Montana” star Cyrus insists that she is nothing like the girl portrayed in the controversial Vanity Fair magazine pictures, and she makes more “modest” fashion choices in real life. Read more of Playboy’s Hugh Hefner wants Miley Cyrus to Pose
